Mercedes-Benz Sales Surge 16%

Daimler AG's Mercedes-Benz Cars unit hiked its sales last month 16% to 188,400 units worldwide, aided by the lure of new models strong demand in China.

Mercedes brand sales in September grew 11% to 85,900 units in Europe, 53% to 38,700 in China and 6% to 29,000 in the U.S.

Global sales by Mercedes and its Smart city car unit rose 16% to 1.46 million. Year-on-year volumes for the Mercedes and Smart brands climbed 15% to 1.37 million and 31% to 88,000, respectively, for the nine-month period.
