The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Assn. has joined the Automotive Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Auto-ISAC) cybersecurity consortium.

Many MEMA members already belong to Auto-ISAC individually. But the Washington, D.C.-based trade group, which represents automotive and commercial vehicle suppliers, says its participation as a strategic partner will allow it to better address cyber concerns throughout the supply chain and help shape future legislation.

Formed last year, Auto-ISAC is a non-profit trade association that allows members to work together and share information and best practices related to cybersecurity. The group aims to develop safeguards for vehicle electronic systems and networks, which are increasingly vulnerable to cyber attacks with the advent of connected and automated vehicle technologies.

ISACs were created in 1998 to create public and private sector partnerships to help protect U.S infrastructures against cyber threats. There currently are 24 ISACs, ranging from information technology and financial services to electricity, energy and surface transportation.
