Mazda Motor Corp. plans to resume one-shift operations at two plants in Japan on July 12 after production was suspended on July 7 by extremely heavy rain.

The record-high precipitation caused widespread flooding and mud slides and has killed at least 176 people, according to officials. High heat and new thunderstorms today have threatened new floods, Reuters reports.

The disaster, described as Japan’s worst weather calamity in 36 years, also has disrupted factory operations for Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan and Daihatsu. Mazda says it will make further adjustments to its production plans on July 21.
