Mazda Motor Corp. is preparing to recall 41,900 of its Mazda6 sedans in the U.S. to replace the airbag control module, which can malfunction and prevent the airbags from inflating in a crash.
The campaign covers 2009-2010 cars. A protective coating may not have been applied during production, thereby allowing the electronics to be damaged by moisture, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Mazda says it doesn’t have replacement parts ready but will notify affected owners in early October about the impending callback.
