Mazda Motor Corp. released a dimly lit image of an unnamed sports coupe it plans to unveil late next month at the Tokyo auto show.
The silhouette features a long hood, fastback roofline and short rear similar to the last RX-7 sports car. Distinctive taillights and a dual-exhaust system also are visible, while it appears that the side mirrors have been replaced by rearview cameras.
Mazda describes the vehicle's design as modern with a sense of "lineage and authenticity." Previous reports have speculated that Mazda is developing a new version of the company's iconic RX-series sports cars possibly to be teamed again with an all-new rotary engine.
