Mazda Prepares for Nationwide Airbag Recall

Mazda Motors Corp. says it will broaden its regional recall to replace defective passenger-side airbag inflators from Takata Corp. to include both driver- and passenger-side inflators in the same models nationwide.
The company currently is fixing 86,800 vehicles in high-humidity parts of the U.S. and its territories. That campaign includes 2003-2007 Mazda6 sedans and 2006-2007 Mazdaspeed6 variants, 2004-2008 RX-8 sports cars, 2004-2005 MPV vans and 2004 model B-Series pickup trucks.
Mazda has not determined when the wider U.S. recall will begin. The company tells Reuters it also is pondering whether to extend the recall worldwide.
