Mazda Motor Corp. has acquired Ford Motor Co.’s 25% stake in a three-way engine-making joint venture in China.

Terms weren’t revealed. But the deal makes Mazda a 50:50 partner in the JV with Chongqing Changan Automobile Co. The venture’s name has been shortened from Changan Ford Mazda Engine Co. to Changan Mazda Engine Co.

The original partnership, which operates a factory in Nanjing, began making engines for Mazda in 2007. The facility will continue to build the company’s Skyactiv-G 1.5-, 2.0- and 2.5-liter gasoline engines.

Those powerplants are supplied to Changan Mazda Automobile Co., also located in Nanjing. It makes Mazda3 small cars and CX-5 compact crossovers and their long-wheelbase CX-8 variant for the Chinese market.
