Daimler AG’s Mercedes-Maybach unit is developing several new technologies to enhance the ride characteristics of future models.

One of the systems is an upgraded version of the “Magic Body Control” adaptive suspension currently available on the Mercedes S-Class and Maybach S650 sedans. The system uses a stereo camera to scan the upcoming road surface, then adjusts the suspension accordingly.

The next-generation system will provide more precise information that allows vehicles to “slide over the road,” Maybach engineering chief Jurgen Weissinger tells Autocar.

The luxury marque also is developing a new drive program with smoother gear shifts. Weissinger says the setting is designed to maximize ride comfort in chauffeured vehicles.

The new technologies are expected to be launched on the redesigned Maybach GLS to be unveiled at the Los Angeles auto show in November. Maybach also is said to be considering hybrid and all-electric powertrains. The latter likely would be based on the Vision Ultimate Luxury concept car introduced at last month’s Beijing auto show.
