Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV's Maserati unit is reducing output to match production to more modest growth expectations, Automotive News Europe reports. Fiat has declined to comment.
Union leaders tell ANE the brand has reduced the number of shifts per week to 10 from 12 at its Grugliasco factory. They say Fiat told workers there they would be working three weeks out of four through June.
Last year Maserati sales more than doubled to a record 36,500 units, Nearly two-thirds of the volume was generated by the company's new Ghibli sport sedans. The U.S. accounted for 35% of all Maserati sales, followed by China with a 26% share.
FCA cautioned last month that Maserati sales would probably be flat this year. CEO Sergio Marchionne told reporters at the Geneva auto show earlier this month that volume would "slow down and settle" in 2015.
