European automaker group ACEA has elected Fiat-Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne to a second term as the group's president after a contentious 12 months.

Marchionne's effort to persuade the EU to coordinate a regionwide reduction in production capacity angered German carmakers, which have far less excess capacity than their French and Italian counterparts. Volkswagen AG called Marchionne "intolerable" and called for his resignation as ACEA chief.

Marchionne has now expanded that feud to America, according to Bloomberg News. The news service notes Fiat is offering a $1,000 cash rebate to VW owners who trade in their vehicle for a new Chrysler or Fiat model. The offer does not apply to any of Fiat-Chrysler's larger competitors.
