CEO Sergio Marchionne tells Bloomberg/Businessweek he will "undoubtedly do something else" after completing a five-year plan to integrate and expand the merger of Fiat SpA and Chrysler Group LLC.

Fiat's revenue and operating profit have tripled since Marchionne took control of the company 10 years ago. He aims to hike revenue of the combined Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, which will officially begin on Monday, by a factor of five to €5 billion ($6.3 billion) by the end of 2018.

The key, Marchionne says, will be forming a truly new company out of the merged entities that could become the industry's new leader. Adds Fiat Chairman John Elkann, "The important thing is clarity."

Marchionne considers turnarounds as his primary expertise. He says FCA will require a different CEO skill set five years from now and is likely to reconfigure the role.

The 38-year-old non-executive chairman Elkann, who represents Fiat's founding Agnelli family, says the company has several strong candidates within Fiat and Chrysler to succeed Marchionne.
