Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne tells Reuters he has held informal conversations with the heads of Apple and Tesla Motors. He also took a spin in a self-driving Google car.
Marchionne didn't reveal details about the discussions. But he has been vocal about FCA's desire to partner with Apple, Google or some other large carmaker. He contends that the cost of developing more efficient powertrains will force greater collaboration among car companies in the near future.
Critics agree with the likelihood of partnerships. But they question FCA's contribution and thus its attractiveness to other top-tier carmakers.
