The November move is part of a $16 million expansion. Mahle acquired a 45,000-sq-ft building in Plymouth that already houses a 4-wheel-drive chassis dynamometer, five powertrain test cells and a lab to evaluate vehicle wiring and instrumentation. The company plans to upgrade the equipment, add two powertrain test cells and install equipment to test hybrid powertrains.
Mahle Powertrain currently employs 40 people in North America. The company expects to add 20 engineering positions at the new facility over the next several years.
