India’s Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. may build a high-end electric vehicle that would be marketed under the company’s Pininfarina SpA design unit.

If approved, the Pininfarina EV would be sold in China, the U.S. and other markets, Mahindra Chairman Anand Mahindra tells MarketWatch. Other media reports speculate that the vehicle will be based on the H2 Speed concept vehicle that Pininfarina unveiled at the 2016 Geneva auto show.

Earlier this month, Mahindra announced it was jointly developing a dedicated EV platform with its SsangYong Motor Co. affiliate. Both companies plan to use the architecture for electric EVs they expect to launch early next decade.

Mahindra acquired South Korea’s SsangYong in 2012 and added Pininfarina in late 2015. Pininfarina previously teamed with Bollore Group on the French company’s Bluecar EV car-sharing operations. Citing increasing competition from mainstream carmakers, Bollore now plans to exit that business.
