Lyft Cuts Scooter Service in 6 Cities

Lyft Inc. has discontinued its scooter sharing service in six of the 18 U.S. cities where it is offered, just over a year after debuting the scheme.

The cuts are in Atlanta, Columbus, Ohio, Dallas, Nashville, Phoenix and San Antonio. Lyft says it will focus its bike and scooter businesses on larger markets with greater potential.

Last year the ride-hailing service acquired Motivate International Inc., the largest provider of bike-sharing services in North America. Lyft temporarily suspended its electric bike service in San Francisco this autumn following two fires. The company relaunched the program this month after changing battery suppliers.
