Low 2014 Death Rate on Roads Matches Record

The National Safety Council estimates the death rate per mile traveled on U.S. roads last year matched the lowest on record, dropping to just over one death per 100 million miles traveled.

Overall estimated mileage increased 1.4%, but the number of deaths dropped 1%.

In all, 35,400 vehicle deaths occurred in 2014, says the NSC. The number of injuries requiring medical attention remained unchanged.
