Group Lotus plc says it will suspend sales of the only model it offers in the U.S., the $70,000 Evora sport coupe, until it can bring the car into compliance with federal crash standards.

The company tells Automotive News it expects to return with a certified version of the Evora in the 2016 model year. In the meantime, it will sell leftover 2014 models until supplies run out.

The announcement comes only six days after Lotus said it would lay off 29% of its global workforce of 1,125 in a bid to stem losses that totaled $259 million for the fiscal year ended March 31. AN estimates Lotus has sold 112 Evoras in the U.S. so far this year.
