A ZL1 Chevrolet Camaro modified by Lingenfelter Performance Engineers hit a speed of 203 mph last week at Continental Tire North America Inc.'s proving ground in Texas.
The Decatur, Ill.-based tuner says the run marked the first time a 2012 Camaro ZL1 exceeded 200 mph. Last month the same car ran the quarter mile in 10.79 seconds and at 134.4 mph.
The specially prepared car is equipped with a modified camshaft, ported cylinder heads, enhanced supercharger and special tires. Lingenfelter says the tweaked ZL1 V-8 delivers 720 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. The stock ZL1 makes 480 hp and 556 lb-ft of torque.
