The top nine models on iSeeCars.com list of high-mileage vehicles in the U.S.—based on sales of used vehicles last year with at least 200,000 miles—are pickup trucks and SUVs.

The highest-ranked vehicle is Ford’s F-250 Super Duty pickup, with 6% of its sales coming from models with odometer readings of more than 200,000 miles. It's followed by the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD large pickup (5.7%) and Toyota 4Runner SUV (5.2%).

The only car to crack the top 10 is the Toyota Avalon large sedan, which ties the GMC Yukon SUV with a 200,000-mile sales rating of 2.7%, according to iSeeCars.com.

The used-car online marketplace and automotive research firm evaluated 12 million used vehicles sold in 2015, with model years ranging from 1981 to 2016. The full top 10 list includes the:

  • Ford F-250 Super Duty (6%)
  • Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD (5.7%)
  • Toyota 4Runner (5.2%)
  • Ford Expedition (5.0%)
  • Chevrolet Suburban (4.8%)
  • Toyota Sequoia (4.8%)
  • GMC Sierra 2500HD (4.6%)
  • Chevrolet Tahoe (3.4%)
  • GMC Yukon XL (3.2%)
  • Toyota Avalon (2.7%)
  • GMC Yukon (2.7%)

Heavy-duty pickups on the road average 33% more miles driven than cars, while SUVs average 15% more, according to the study. The authors note that large pickups often are used as work trucks. Owners of these vehicles look to amortize the purchase cost over a longer period and tend to do a better job maintaining and repairing them.

Six of the top 11 vehicles are SUVs, which iSeeCars notes also are used for business purposes and as family transporters. The highest-ranked luxury vehicle is the Lincoln Navigator SUV, with 2% of its sales derived from models with 200,000-plus miles.

The Honda Accord sedan and Odyssey minivan also derived about 2% of their used car sales from such models. Other high-mileage-driven vehicles include the Ford Taurus, Chevrolet Impala and Dodge Grand Caravan.
