Toyota Motor Corp.’s Lexus unit took the wraps off the LM 350 MPV this week at the Shanghai auto show.

Targeting the “next-generation of luxury consumers” in China and elsewhere in Asia, the LM 350 is designed to be a chauffeured vehicle with the focus on rear-seat comfort and amenities. The front and rear rows are separated by a glass partition that can be raised and lowered.

Buyers can choose between a standard three-row layout with seating for seven or a four-seat configuration to create a more spacious rear compartment. The latter features two large captain’s chairs.

All rear seats have heating, cooling (via suction ventilation) and massage functions. The seats are made from low-density urethane foam that Lexus boasts provides ideal support and couch-like comfort.

A touch display between the rear seats controls the TV, seats, climate control and sound system. Other goodies include a 26-inch flat-screen television, umbrella bin and a mini-refrigerator that can hold two champagne bottles.

The LM shares a platform with the third-generation Toyota Alphard minivan, which is sold in Russia and select Asian markets. The suspension is tuned for smoothness.

Power comes from a 3.5-liter V-6 engine. A hybrid system that teams a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle 4-cylinder with an electric motor also is available. All-wheel-drive is optional.

Exterior styling is highlighted by a massive rendition of the brand’s signature “spindle” grille, which Lexus says is the largest in the brand’s history, and lots of chrome trim. Only two colors will be available: black or white.
