Lexus inched past Mercedes-Benz to become the top-scoring auto brand in this year's American Customer Satisfaction Index.
Compiled by ACSI LLC in Ann Arbor, Mich., the annual study tracked 27 brands in terms of customer feedback and market share. Ratings are on a 100-point scale. Lexus scored 84 in this year's study, followed by Acura, Lincoln and Mercedes (83) and BMW, Subaru and Toyota (82).
ACSI reports overall customer satisfaction with new cars fell for the third consecutive year, this time by three points to an 11-year low of 79. The study blames higher new-vehicle prices, quality problems and a relentless series of image-damaging safety recalls.
Imports accounted for three out of four nameplates that posted above-average scores this year. Among domestic carmakers, Ford (81) was followed by General Motors (79) and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (75).
FCA's brand anchored the bottom of the 2015 ACSI ratings with scores of 76 for Dodge, 75 for Jeep, 74 for Chrysler and 73 for Fiat.
