Nissan Motor Co. may build its Leaf electric vehicle at its joint venture plant in Guangdong, China, Bloomberg News reports.
The news service cites a statement on the Web site of the National Development and Reform Commission's Guangdong branch.
The NDRC says Nissan and partner Dongfeng Motor Group Co. would initially produce 10,000 EVs per year and quintuple output by 2015. Guangdong province aims to boost its annual factory capacity for alternative-energy vehicles to more than 200,000 units by 2015.
Nissan currently makes the Leaf in Japan and Tennessee.
