A new lawsuit filed in Oakland, Calif., seeks class-action status on behalf of current and past black workers who claim Tesla Inc. managers addressed them with racial slurs.
The group’s complaint follows at least two filed earlier this year by individual black workers who made similar assertions about conditions at Tesla’s assembly plant in Fremont, Calif. Reuters notes that the company also has been hit by lawsuits claiming Tesla discriminated against gays and older workers.
The new lawsuit was filed by former Tesla worker Marcus Vaughn, who says he was fired in October for “not having a positive attitude.” Hired in April, he says he was routinely harassed by fellow workers and Tesla managers. His lawsuit asserts that Tesla’s human resources department did not investigate his multiple written complaints about the issue.
