Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. and Italian design house Zagato Design srl have teamed up again on a new concept car that will be publicly unveiled at this weekend’s Concorso d'Eleganza in Lake Como, Italy.
The carbon-fiber-bodied Vanquish Zagato coupe takes design cues from Aston Martin’s One-77 supercar, CC-100 concept and Vulcan track car. Highlights include a sporty stance, wraparound windshield, “wing” side mirrors, a retractable spoiler, stylized LED taillamps and a quad-exhaust system.
The roof’s double-bubble design has been a Zagato staple since the 1950s. Other Zagato-inspired touches include a sculpted rear end and round taillight reflectors.
The interior reflects Aston Martin’s craftsmanship and penchant for high-end materials, including rich leathers and Herringbone carbon fiber. Zagato’s famous “Z” is stitched into the seats, door lining, headrests and center console.
Power comes from the base Vanquish’s naturally aspirated 5.9-liter V-12 engine. For the Zagato concept, the engine’s 562-hp output has been upped to 592 hp.
The Vanquish Zagato is the fifth collaboration between the two companies, which started with the 1960 DB4 GT Zagato. The partners also teamed up on the 1986 V8 Zagato, 2002 DB7 Zagato and 2011 V12 Zagato. The new concept also is expected to yield a limited-edition production model.
