Jaguar Land Rover Ltd. has begun selling its first plug-in hybrid, the Range Rover Sport P400e, in the U.K.
The SUV (pictured) is a variant of the conventionally powered Range Rover Sport. The vehicle combines a 300-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a 114-hp electric motor and 13.1-kWh lithium-ion battery.
The setup, which JLR developed internally, can operate for 50 km (30 miles) on electric power alone.
The P400e has a base price in England of £70,800 ($93,900), making it almost £8,000 ($10,600) more expensive than the standard model. The plug-in will debut in the U.S. next summer at $78,300, compared with about $67,000 for a Range Rover Sport with conventional powertrain.
