Tata Motors Ltd.'s Land Rover unit may expand its lineup of SUVs with 14 or more new models in seven years, according to Autocar.

Design director Gerry McGovern tells the British enthusiast magazine that the company could add six SUVs to its Range Rover line, four that carry the Freelander nameplate and at least four more to expand the Defender line.

McGovern says the "holistic" expansion plan would give Range Rover two new iterations of its highly styled Evoque model, including a convertible, and perhaps a 13-foot-long "baby" three-door vehicle.

Autocar says Range Rover plans to introduce a next-generation Defender model, then add five- and seven-passenger iterations and a crew cab pickup variant.

The company also plans to position Freelander as a line of "leisure" SUVs that includes an entry-level vehicle, five- and seven-passenger iterations and a new flagship Discovery model riding on a new aluminum platform, according to McGovern.
