Volkswagen AG's Lamborghini unit is expected to announce on Wednesday it will assemble its Urus SUV/crossover vehicle in Italy, Bloomberg News reports. The high-performance vehicle is expected to go into production in 2017.

Sources tell the news service the company will receive €80 million in tax breaks and other incentives in exchange for agreeing to hire as many as 500 workers to make the exotic crossover.

The Urus will share its platform with the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and VW Touareg, all of which are produced at VW's plant in Bratislava, Slovakia. Bloomberg says Bratislava also will supply the chassis for the Urus.

Lamborghini hasn't offered an SUV since it discontinued the blocky LM002, nicknamed the Rambo Lambo, in 1993. The company sold a record 2,500 two-seater supercars in 2014. It has estimated it could sell 3,000 SUVs per year.
