Volkswagen AG’s Lamborghini supercar unit reiterates that it expects its global output to at least double to 7,000 units by 2019 because of the Urus SUV/crossover it plans to launch in 2018.

Last year the iconic brand sold a record 3,200 cars worldwide. CEO Stefano Domenicali tells Reuters the company is aiming to sell 3,500 units of the $200,000 Urus per year. He says the model will be joined by a plug-in hybrid version in 2020.

To prepare for expanded sales, the brand will double the capacity of its factory in Bolognese, Italy, add 500 employees and expand its dealer network 20% to 160 outlets.
