Kia Motors Corp. confirms earlier media reports that it will sell an electric version of the Soul small crossover in the U.S. in 2014.
The EV will share the same platform as the next-generation 2014 Soul now being introduced but will feature special aerodynamic styling. The vehicle is expected to cost about $35,000 before incentives.
Kia has released no technical information about the car. But media reports suggest the EV will be able to drive about 120 miles per charge, reach a top speed of 87 mph and accelerate from zero to 62 mph in 12 seconds.
The Soul EV is Kia's second alternative-fuel vehicle for the American market. The company introduced a hybrid version of its Optima midsize sedan in the U.S. in 2011.
