Kia Motors Corp. says its Imagine concept car could preview design elements of the company’s future electric vehicles.

The carmaker took the wraps off the concept this week at the Geneva auto show. A production version of the vehicle could arrive by 2021, according to media reports.

Kia describes the Imagine as a “holistic and emotional” signpost to the company’s approach to electrification. The vehicle rides on a dedicated electric vehicle platform that will be shared with parent Hyundai Motor Co.

About the size of a Ford Focus compact sedan, the concept blends attributes of a fastback coupe, sport sedan and crossover vehicle. Among the highlights are a panoramic glass roof, bulging fenders and a rippling effect stamped into the metal on the lower portions of the front bumper and door panels.

The grille gets an updated version of Kia’s tiger nose design. The new “tiger mask” is outlined with a strip of LEDs that circles the grille and LED headlights. Kia says the look could provide a "unifying design element" of future EVs.

Other features include rear-hinged second-row doors and a storage compartment under the hood. The car’s battery is packaged in the floor and is designed for wireless induction charging.

The interior sports stylish leather and silk seats, mirrored surfaces and a floating center console that stretches into the rear seats.

The Imagine’s sweeping dashboard is dominated by 21 small misshaped display screens, which Kia describes as a humorous take on other carmakers’ competition to offer the largest touchscreen.
