Car registrations across Europe rose 5% to 1.62 million units in June, trade group ACEA reports.

Results were mixed among the region’s five largest markets. Sales gained in Germany (+4% to 341,300 units), France (+9% to 252,200) and Spain (+8% to 142,400). But results shrank in the U.K. (-4% to 234,900 vehicles) and Italy (-7% to 174,700).

Carmakers that outpaced overall market expansion last month were Volkswagen Group (+13% to 404,000 vehicles), PSA (+66% to 259,200, or +8% to 168,200 when Opel is ignored), BMW (+8% to 111,500), Hyundai-Kia (+6% to 99,000), Toyota (+13% to 75,300) and Volvo (+29% to 38,100).

Renault Group matched overall market growth in June with a 5% gain to 196,300 sales.

Deliveries declined last month for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (-3% to 104,100 units), Daimler (-5% to 90,300), Ford (-8% to 88,500), Nissan (-13% to 47,200), Jaguar Land Rover (-1% to 18,800) and Honda (-3% to 12,300).

ACEA says sales in Europe through the first half of 2018 advanced 3% to 8.70 million vehicles.
