Jaguar Land Rover Ltd. says it will continue to pursue a lawsuit in a Beijing court that accuses China’s Jiangling Motors Corp. of copying its distinctive Range Rover Evoque SUV, even though a Chinese government board canceled the company’s patent on the Evoque design.
Reuters says Chinese authorities also revoked Jiangling’s patent for its lookalike Land Wing X7 SUV, noting the design strongly resembles the Evoque. The Land Wing went on sale at the end of 2014, nearly four years after the Evoque was introduced, at one-third the price of the British SUV.
JLR may appeal the patent ruling. But it says its complaint against Jiangling is a separate legal matter involving unfair competition and copyright infringement.
