JLR to Idle U.K. Plant for 2 Weeks as China Sales Fade

Jaguar Land Rover Ltd. will halt production at its SUV factory in Solihull, England, for two weeks after sales in China plummeted nearly 50%. The shutdown will begin on Oct. 22.
Last month JLR said it also is would output to three days per week between October and the end of November at its Jaguar car plant at Castle Bromwich.
The company reports that its retail sales in September dropped 5% in Europe and 7% in North America.
JLR reports that its worldwide retail sales in September fell 12% to 56,100 units. Demand for the quarter ended Sept. 30 shrank 13% to 129,900 vehicles. Volume for the first nine months of 2018 slipped 4% to 448,100 units.
