JLR Locks Up “Road Rover” Name

Jaguar Land Rover Ltd. has applied to trademark the Road Rover name.

Last year Autocar reported that Land Rover planned to use the name on a crossover vehicle with “light off-road” capabilities that was said to be under development. Media reports now speculate that the Road Rover moniker could adorn the marque’s first electric vehicle, which is expected to debut next year.

The carmaker previously used the Road Rover name on a prototype utility vehicle in the 1950s. That vehicle eventually morphed into the original Range Rover SUV.
