Tata Motors Ltd. tripled its net profit in April-June to 54 billion rupees ($882 million) as revenue surged 36% to 648 billion rupees ($10.6 billion).

Results for the company's fiscal first quarter were driven by its Jaguar Land Rover luxury vehicle unit. JLR's sales climbed 22% to 115,600 vehicles, and pretax profit rose to 924 million ($1.6 billion).

Deliveries of Tata-brand cars and trucks dropped 37% and 25%, respectively. The company's domestic operations reported a profit of 4 billion rupees ($65 million).
