Tata Motors Ltd.'s Jaguar Land Rover unit confirms it will spend some £400 million (€542 million) to retool its Jaguar factory near Birmingham, England, and expand its R&D capabilities in Coventry.
JLR chief Ralf Speth says the investment should allay fears the company intended to expand outside the U.K. where labor costs were lower.
Much of the new investment will be used to prepare JLR's Jaguar plant to make the new Jaguar XF sedan. In January the company said it would produce a new high-performance crossover vehicle at its plant in Solihull, England.
