Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV resumed Jeep production in China today after a nine-year hiatus when a Cherokee SUV rolled off the line of FCA’s venture with Guangzhou Automobiles Group in Changsha.

Deliveries are expected to begin before the end of 2015. Next year the venture plans to expand local Jeep production to include the Renegade SUV. Domestic sales will be handled by the newly created GAC FCA Automobiles Sales Co. Ltd.

China is Jeep’s largest market outside the U.S. The locally built Cherokee will be priced at 200,000-300,000 yuan ($31,400-$47,200). FCA will continue to import the Grand Cherokee.
