Honda, Mazda and Toyota say hoods and other exterior components made with improperly inspected sheet aluminum supplied by Kobe Steel Ltd. are safe.
The news prompted a 6% increase in Kobe’s stock price earlier today after a 41% decline last week.
Kobe admits it has been falsifying quality data about its aluminum, iron, steel and copper products for 10 years. The materials have been used by some 500 companies worldwide in everything from cars and planes to trains and computer discs.
