Jaguar Cars Ltd. is upgrading its XJ flagship sedan with new safety and convenience features, a more powerful V-6 engine and revamped styling. The company also has added two new variants the R-Sport and long-wheelbase Autobiography models to the XJ lineup.

Exterior changes include a larger, more upright grille, sculpted chrome air intake blades, new daytime running lights, light-emitting-diode taillights and a gloss black insert on the rear bumper. The interior gets upgraded leather seats and an updated version of Jaguar's InControl Touch Pro infotainment system with a reconfigurable touchscreen that's faster and can be controlled by smartphone-type motions such as swiping and pinching. A new rear-seat entertainment system includes two 10.2-inch folding displays.

The 2016 model retains the previous car's supercharged V-6 and V-8 gasoline engine choices. But the 3.0-liter V-6 diesel has been reworked to boost output by 25 hp and 75 lb-ft of torque to 296 hp and 516 lb-ft, respectively, while lowering carbon dioxide emissions 6% to 149 g/km. All engines are mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

A new electric power steering system promises to improve fuel efficiency and provide greater responsiveness. Other available safety features include adaptive cruise control, semi-autonomous parking assist, traffic sign recognition and a 360 camera system.

The new R-Sport model features a rear spoiler, sports seats and high-end interior trim. The premium Autobiography model is highlighted by 20-inch alloy wheels, quilted leather seats, illuminated stainless steel tread plates and individual rear seats.
