European investors and analysts are slightly less optimistic about German business conditions than they were in June, according to the Centre of European Economic Research (ZEW).
The Mannheim, Germany-based group's sentiment index slipped to 36.3 in July from 38.5 the previous month. Gauges of the current economic situation and six-month outlook both declined modestly.
Analysts say one reason for the dip in confidence is weaker demand abroad for German-made goods. The country's exports to countries outside the EU dropped 9% month on month to €38.1 billion in May, according Eurostat, the region's statistics bureau.
For the broader eurozone, ZEW says confidence climbed 4.8 points from June to -74.4 this month.
