Intelligence Expert Joins GM’s Board

General Motors Co. is adding Jami Miscik, a security and intelligence expert who heads New York-based geopolitical Kissinger Associates, to its board of directors.

Miscik, 60, worked for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency from 1983 until 2005, including a three-year stint as deputy director. She also was the chair of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board for the last 17 months of the Obama administration, ending in January 2017.

Miscik joined Kissinger in 2009 and was named CEO and vice chairman in July 2017. She previously held executive roles at Barclays Capital and Lehman Brothers.

Miscik also is on the board of directors at Morgan Stanley and is co-vice chairman of the Council on Foreign Relations. She has a master’s degree in international studies from the University of Denver and a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Pepperdine University.

GM CEO Mary Barra touts Miscik’s experience in intelligence, security and risk analysis and mitigation. The election of Miscik makes the 12-member board a 50:50 split between men and women for the third time in the company's history.
