Nissan Motor Co.'s Infiniti brand will expand its role as a sponsor of Formula One's Red Bull Racing team, which last week won the constructor's championship for the third consecutive year.

Beginning with next year's race season, the team will be called Infiniti Red Bull racing.

Under the four-year agreement, Infiniti and the F1 team also will cooperate on engineering and development projects, which will include the carmaker's energy-recovery braking technology. Nissan alliance partner Renault SA supplies the team's engines.

The Japanese luxury brand hopes its presence in the prestigious series will raise its profile as it expands globally. Between 2012 and 2014 Infiniti is entering such markets as Australia, Brazil and South Africa where F1 is popular.
