Nissan Motor Co.’s Infiniti luxury unit will not offer a convertible option for its redesigned Q60 coupe, reports Motoring.
“The convertible is off the table,” Gerardo Carmona, who heads Infiniti’s product strategy, tells the Australian magazine. Citing low volumes for the convertible, which Infiniti sold for 14 years, Carmona says the decision to drop the convertible allowed the company to better focus on extensive changes made to the coupe that he characterizes as "drastically" different than its predecessor.
The Q60, which previously was sold as the G37 coupe and convertible, continues to share a platform with the Nissan 370Z. It's not clear if a convertible version of the latter car will be offered again.
Carmona also says there are no immediate plans to introduce a high-performance variant of the Q60 to compete against the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz C63. Infiniti had hinted at such a model in 2014 with the Q50 Eau Rouge concept car. But those plans were dropped when former president Johan de Nysschen left the Japanese company to lead General Motors Co.’s Cadillac unit.
