Nissan Motor Co.'s Infiniti luxury brand plans to launch a stand-alone electric car in 2019.
The new model, which will be previewed in concept in January at the Detroit auto show, will ride on a dedicated platform, Infiniti design boss Alfonsa Albaisa tells Autocar. Other Infiniti executives vow that any EV will maintain the brand’s performance characteristics.
Albaisa says the 2019 production model will incorporate some technical aspects of the retro-styled Prototype 9 electric grand prix concept that Infiniti showed in California last month. That vehicle features a 30-kWh battery pack and an electric motor that produces 148 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque.
