Indonesia’s Car Sales Rise 9% in Second Quarter
Carmakers in Indonesia sold 264,000 passenger vehicles in the second quarter of 2016, up 9% from the same period last year, says the Assn. of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo).
Carmakers in Indonesia sold 264,000 passenger vehicles in the second quarter of 2016, up 9% from the same period last year, says the Assn. of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo).
Results were driven by Astra International Tbk, the market’s largest distributor, whose sales for the period climbed 16% to 146,000 units.
But Astra’s revenue, like those of such rivals as Indomobil Group, declined because of a shift in consumer demand toward lower-priced “green” cars, says The Jakarta Post. The newspaper notes that sales of such vehicles grew 20% to 48,600 units in April-June. Demand for conventional cars grew 9%.
The newspaper notes that car sales in Indonesia fell 16% to 1.01 million units in 2015. Gaikindo predicts volume this year will advance to about 1.05 million vehicles.
