Hyundai Motor Co.’s unionized workers are staging two rounds of four-hour strikes today at the company’s facilities in South Korea.
It’s the third such series of mini-strikes this week and the eighth since labor talks began earlier this year, the Yonhap news agency reports. The union’s annual contract negotiations this year are being led by Park You Ki, who sparked violent strikes against Hyundai during his previous term as union president in 2006-2007. He was reelected president at the end of last year.
Workers demand an average 7.2% raise in base wages and a bonus pool equal to 30% of the company’s net profit from the previous year. The union is demanding a company response when the two sides meet next Wednesday for the 17th round of negotiations, Yonhap reports.
