Hyundai Motor Co. will recall 199,000 Santa Fe crossover vehicles and 22,500 Sonata sedans to replace or recalibrate faulty airbag system components.

The separate campaigns involve Santa Fe vehicles from the 2007-2009 model years and Sonatas from model years 2012-2013.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the front passenger airbag in the Santa Fe may not deploy when it should if a short adult occupies the seat. Hyundai dealers will recalibrate the system's occupant classification system, which senses the size and weight of the passenger seat occupant.

The agency says an error in the production of the airbag inflator module could cause side curtain airbags in the Sonata to inflate unexpectedly. Hyundai told the NHTSA it had received two reports of a side airbag inflating when the vehicle was parked and unoccupied. Hyundai dealers will replace the side airbags.
