Hyundai Sketches Plans for Small Crossover

Hyundai Motor Co. has released a sketch of its upcoming Creta subcompact crossover.
The new model will be publicly unveiled in September at the Frankfurt auto show. Sales will begin later this year in India and other global markets. Plans for the U.S. haven't been announced yet.
Sharing a platform and some components with Hyundai's i20 hatchback, the Creta incorporates the company's Fluidic 2.0 design language and closely resembles last year's ix25 concept model.
Hyundai describes the vehicle's sleek profile as a "premium look" with a "stable, confident stance." The front end features a hexagonal grille with large air intakes, sweptback headlights and a sculpted bumper.
Hidden A pillars add styling flair and allow for a more open cabin. The interior also is inspired by the i20 with a two-tone dashboard and three-spoke steering wheel.
Front- and all-wheel-drive configurations are expected. Media reports suggest the production model will use a five-door layout rather than the three-door design shown in the sketch.
The Creta will compete against the Chevrolet Trax, Fiat 500X, Honda HR-V, Jeep Renegade, Mazda CX-3, Nissan Juke and Renault Duster in the growing small crossover market.
