Hyundai Motor Co. is partnering with California tuner Bisimoto Engineering on a 1,040-hp version of the carmaker’s Santa Fe crossover vehicle.
The concept model, dubbed the Santa-Fast, will be publicly unveiled in early November at the Specialty Equipment Market Assn. show in Las Vegas. Hyundai and Bisimoto previously worked together on several other high-powered SEMA concepts.
The Santa-Fast concept features a heavily modified version of Hyundai’s 3.8-liter Lambda V-6 engine. Changes include a customized twin-turbo kit and intercooler, forged pistons, beefed-up steel connecting rods, new camshafts and a redesigned valvetrain. Bisimoto’s Turbonetics turbochargers can reach a peak pressure of 39 psi.
The engine is mated with a 6-speed manual transmission borrowed from a Genesis Coupe R-Spec. The concept’s differential is housed in a customized rear subframe built by Rothfab.
Other goodies include Buddy Club brakes, Fifteen52 wheels, KW coil-cover suspension, custom axles, a roll cage and Momo racing seats.
