Hyundai Recalls 883,000 Cars with Gear Shift Flaw
Hyundai Motor Co. is preparing to call back 883,000 of its 2011-2014 model Sonata sedans to check for a possible loose connection between the shift lever and shift cable.

Hyundai Motor Co. is preparing to call back 883,000 of its 2011-2014 model Sonata sedans to check for a possible loose connection between the shift lever and shift cable.
If the shift cable detaches, the vehicle's gear selector won't necessarily show which gear the transmission is in. Thus the car could still be in Drive when Reverse is selected, or vice versa. When parking the vehicle, selecting Park may not lock the transmission, thereby creating a risk that the car could roll away after its occupants leave.
Hyundai dealers will inspect and repair the link between the shift lever and shift cable. The company has not yet determined when the recall will begin.
